JoVE: Addressing Complexity
State-of-the-art life science research has reached a level of complexity that is matched only by the complexity of the living species under investigation. At this stage, an essential requirement to advance basic research and to aid bench-to-bedside translation is the ability to rapidly transfer knowledge within the research community and to the general public.Contrasting the rapid advancement of scientific research itself, scientific communication still relies on traditional print journals, which can not however, capture the intricacy of contemporary life science research.
JoVE: Addressing the “Bottleneck” of Reproducibility and Transparency
As every practicing life science researcher knows, it may take weeks or sometimes months and years to learn and apply new experimental techniques. It has become especially difficult to reproduce newly published studies describing the most advanced state-of-the-art techniques. With participation of scientists from leading research institutions, the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) was established as a new, open access tool in life science publication and communication. While promoting efficiency and performance of life science research, JoVE opens a new frontier in scientific publication. Visualization of the temporal component, the change over time, integral to many life science experiments, can now be done. For the first time, JoVE allows you to publish your experiments in all its dimensions, overcoming the inherent limitations of traditional print journals, thus adding a whole new quality to the communication of your experimental work and research results.
