Internship: Coordinator of common communication at the United Nations Regional Information Centre in Brussels / Belgium Deadline: 4 March 2012

Vacancy Announcement Intern, Coordinator of common communication, UNRIC Office in Brussels

Main task: assist UNRIC in its role as the coordinator of common communication efforts for the UN team in Brussels.

The intern will be attached to and under the immediate supervisions of the UK/Ireland Desk.

The intern will work closely with the EU-Benelux desk and the IT and webteam as well as the UNRIC team coordinator.

Timeframe: three to six month from March 2012.

Terms of Reference

Duties and Responsibilities
Daily monitoring of UN-EU related developments;
Participate and report on UNBT events
Liaise regularly with colleagues from the UN Communication Group;
Assist with actions on key 2012 communication deliverables for the UN Communication Group, namely:

common messages for Rio+20 (including short videos with UNBT heads);

Frequently asked Questions section for UNBT website;

Preparations for the promotion of the UN-EU Partnership Report;
Update UN Brussels website, as needed
Track website statistics
Aggregate and/or create content for websites and social media
Distribute content to websites
Schedule (video) interviews with agencies/partners/VIP’s

Social Media Outreach:
Support the management of UNBT’s presence on social media including the creation and dissemination of information through regular updates and personal communications with fans and followers.
In addition, he/she will monitor and engage on various social media platforms
Keep up to date on new social media tools (especially Facebook and Twitter), best practice and how other organizations and NGO’s are using them in order to identify new campaigning opportunities.
Develop and implement strategies and new tools for recruiting and engaging supporters through social media.

Ad hoc tasks including for the UK Ireland Desk.

Applicants should have good academic background in the areas of communications, journalism, international relations, marketing or political science and a have thorough knowledge of the UN system. Candidates must have an excellent command of English. It and web management knowledge are highly desirable.
